This is kind of fresh article and it's pretty interesting topic. It wasn't posted yet, just mentioned in the discussion here. In case I'm wrong, I'm sorry. What's Next for Evanescence? Amy Lee Muses on Digital EPAugust 3 2012, 8:52 AM ET by Kory Grow Source: www.spin.com/articles/whats-next-evanescence-amy-lee-muses-digital-epSince the release of Evanescence's self-titled third LP last year, Amy Lee and Co. have been making glossy videos, like their own for "My Heart Is Broken," and touring the world. Currently, they're headlining the Carnival of Madness tour, with support from Chevelle, Halestorm, Cavo, and New Medicine (dates below), and in advance of their Columbus, Ohio, date, Lee sat down for an interview with Mike Jones of the radio station X106.7. After getting past some sort of awkward moments about Jones wanting to hear stories about "you and Lzzy [Hale, Halestorm's frontwoman] just hanging out, talking, doing girl things" in the back of the bus, the interview turned up some interesting tidbits. One is that Lee someday hopes to score a movie soundtrack. "It's a dream of mine," she said. "But that's a huge undertaking… I have to get in with somebody who can let me tag along and watch or possibly help or just let me watch the first time around before throwing myself into that completely." The idea isn't totally out of the question either since, she adds, "Before we got signed, I was in school for theory and composition and hoping to go down that road if the band didn't break." Something that could keep her adequately occupied obviously would be recording more music with Evanescence. In the interview, she hints that she wouldn't mind experimenting with some nontraditional formats in the near future. When the interviewer praises the LP Evanescence for being cohesive and an engaging whole-album experience, Lee countered, "I'm starting to change my mind about that being essential to every single project. [Making a record] is a huge undertaking, especially the way we've done it in the past… It means recording 18 songs and whittling it down to the ones that will actually make the album." Her solution, it seems, is embracing digital music. "This is the future," Lee told the interviewer. "Maybe we're moving to a place where it could be cool to do something else — like five songs, just do a digital release only, and it's easier to move on to the next single quicker." The whole interview is available for streaming here.

There hasn't be any mention of a solo album from her in a while (from what I've seen). Which is quite a shame, since she is massively talented and a lot of people are dying to hear a solo album from her. I don't mind hearing a movie soundtrack from her in the future, I'm just ready for her to be done with Evanescence... I mean.. not for good. Just like a really long break so she can focus on using her incredible talents for something other than rock.
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who feels this way.

Well, and I feel i'm the only one who would love to always hold the artifact in my hands. This whole thing with the record industry and digital music makes me sad. Although I know that's the only necessary development there.

I hate to say this but if they only did digital releases I don't know if I would "buy" it. I hate things like iTunes

I want to finally hear something else from her too... Not just one song here and there like Sally's Song, I want to hear a complete project from her. I'd prefer her go solo permanently than continue with Evanescence at all if it had to be one or the other.

During the recent Spotify live chat with Amy I said something about feeling like we missed out on an electronic era between TOD and EV3. She replied to me saying something like her head is still totally in that place and hinting that she'll finish one day

I wouldn't like Evanescence to go away for good, though, i'd miss the band too much, i'm already used to checking out a new album by them from time to time and i'm sure they still have room to grow as a band, especially with Will and Troy on board. BUT, i'd love Amy to take a break soon and record a solo album. I have this feeling that there are many aspects of her creativity that just won't show up on an Evanescence album (which is a shame), and i'd love to hear what she can come up withouth the pressure of being in a rock band. And of course with a very open-minded producer, one really brave and crazy, who's not afraid of doing something risky. I'm all for a project like that ;D ;D

She should combine it. Then everybody's happy! But that is probably impossible? I actually rather prefer that she stays with the band. (although I adore her 'solowork' she has written so far) I love her voice in combination with that rock vibe and trinkling piano. There are many other bands that have that similar recipe, but Ev is the only band that never has disappointed me. I agree that Amy's creativity now is held back a bit, which is indeed a shame, but yeah.. I just hope that, when they break their contract with Wind-Up Amy is allowed to put all those new (electronic or not) elements in the band without losing too much of their core sound.

I think Amy will definately go solo. Evanescence has been kind of just a name for her. She said that Evanescence were Ben, David and her. After they both left, there were no more "original" members in the band apart from her. This album was like a requirement from the contract with the label that was supposed to last 10 years (if I'm not misstaken). They had to record an 3rd album to comply with it.
Now that the contract will be over, she can get rid of the band's name and start a solo project. I hope the best for her, but the music industry is completely different from what it was compared to the time in which they got super famous, so maybe It will not be easy for Amy but as she has a solid fanbase, She'll do quite well, just like Ev 3 did, I guess.
Can't wait to hear the old/new stuff, but I'll miss the band too. (I know nothing has been said yet, but still)

Now that they are actually a band instead of 2 song writers and some hired players, I don't think they will separate so easily. Yes, they will have a break to spend some time with their families, there might be some side projects but in the end they will still be a band.

Yes, they will have a break to spend some time with their families, there might be some side projects but in the end they will still be a band. I agree. Those guys are way too close now for 'Evanescence' (as a group of people, rather than necessarily a business entity) to just split and go their separate ways and I know from other interviews that people like Will in particular were really struggling financially when Ev's future was up in the air. Saying that, Amy is hugely confident and successful and I'm in no doubt that she COULD continue alone should she choose too. I think a solo project from Amy is inevitable, but perhaps only when the others are off doing their own thing between albums (perhaps if Dark New Day starts a major tour etc.). If it's the label causing them problems then I can even see them shedding the label, changing their name and continuing as they are but with a different label or even going unsigned (this is a fairly easy way to survive as a musician if you're just selling downloadable music over the internet nowadays, even I've got an album released worldwide and I doubt anybody's really heard of me :L). The name 'Evanescence' does sell them records, but in all honesty I think it's Amy's presence more than anything that boosts their popularity the most nowadays. She's a popular icon. I do hope this doesn't happen though and I agree with Rionka, I'd much rather have an album in my hands then just downloaded music. There really is no substitute for it. Perhaps a couple of years break for the band with some solo/side project stuff from Amy, Terry, Tim, more music from DND followed by another reunion and another EP or full length album from Ev, followed by another world tour would be my dream situation

I'm sorry, but I strongly disagree with that Amy should go solo. And also I can not imagine how could Evanescence be 'unsigned' and go on worldwide tour without the financial support. What happen then with shitty little countries as us in the middle of Europe? They'll never see them anymore. They are not a garage band anymore, they have their costs, their laser shows, their needs... and their fans too. And... what other name than Evanescence would be suitable for this? This is just reckless anticipating, and I'm sad of that.

I am dieing to hear the kind of stuff Amy would produce as a solo artist, but ultimately it comes down to what will make Amy and the rest of the band most happy.
